Facts & Figures
The Susquehanna River watershed consists of 45.5% of the land area of Pennsylvania and 13% of the State of New York. It supplies 50% of the fresh water entering the Chesapeake Bay. |

Generation
- In one day, at maximum output, Safe Harbor Hydroelectric power plant generates approximately 10-million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electrical energy.
- In a year's time, the plant averages 1,088,950,400 kWh. This total is dependent on the yearly average of the river flow.
- Safe Harbor's total output is supplied to co-owners LSP Safe Harbor Holdings LLC and Constellation Power Source Generation, Inc. to supplement the power flow into the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM)
- The power flowing from Safe Harbor is used primarily to meet peak demands for electricity.
- Continuous operation occurs when river flow equals or exceeds the plant's maximum water handling capacity. (110,000 cfs)

*For Railroad electrified service
A Frequency converter, No. 27-67, is available for conversion of power between 25 Hz and 60 Hz. This unit consists of a 31,250 kVA 25 Hz generator direct connected to a 29, 700 kVA, 34,900 HP 60 Hz motor.
**Kaplan runners have horizontal, adjustable, propeller shaped blades. Francis runners have fixed, vertical, curved blades (commonly called buckets) joined to circular bands around the top and bottom of circumferences. Mixed flow runners are somewhat similar to Francis runners, but have more spiraling blades without the bands. |
